I thought the reason I got a good deal ($5) on this tape deck was that the reel holder on the right spindle was broken, but then I found a picture of the unit on the day I bought it and that part was intact.

I went to purchase a suite of utilities for my computer at a nice discount only to find that the sale is now over and I missed the deal by one day.

I cleaned the tea maker today, getting rid of all of those brown stains, only to find that the basket no longer lowers like it should because the plastic is now cracked. Hopefully a little cyanoacrylate will do the job as I don’t want to spend half the price I paid for the machine on a replacement basket.

I purchased some add-ons for a game I like and installed them, but installed them on the wrong drive. Now when I try to launch either version the program won’t run. I’m in the process of doing a backup right now, but I plugged the flash drive into a USB2 port instead of USB3 and it’s taking forever to backup less than 10GB. Now I’ll have to reinstall each component and see which one causes the program to fail.

Yesterday was a seriously sucky day at work and I looked forward to the weekend where I could have some fun and make progress on things around the house, but right now I just want to crawl in bed and ignore the world for a few days...

It’s ok to have a pity party for yourself, every now and then. I had a rough week as well.

I had to fire my general contractor who was doing renovations on my house and everything is like 95% finished. Now no other contractor wants to touch the place to actually make it livable.

I broke a hospital’s phone system thursday afternoon and just got it restored about 3 hours ago. I had about 900 phones down with no way to call into the hospital. Lot’s of angry conference calls and finger pointing. The manufacturer telling me it’s not the phone system’s fault, but the carrier’s problem. Turns out a change to the database that I made corrupted the database. The manufacturer loaded my database on test hardware and it passed, so we replaced all relevant hardware. We ended up having to load a database from Aug of this year. That was the last time I had worked on it. The local staff had made a lot of changes, that they did not document or backup in any way. My only choice was to load that database and redo all the changes they had made in the past two and a half months.

Luckily I live in a place that has legalized certain things, so that is helping me have a good afternoon. I as well am going to stay in the house all weekend. Hopefully we will have a good Monday.

Things are actually looking up a little. I found out what’s wrong with the tea maker and it looks like I can get it going again, although that means no (good) tea for 24 hours . The game has been fixed and should be operational, and I’ve repurchased most of the add-ons from perhaps more reputable suppliers. The one I couldn’t get working appears to be fairly low rated so it’s no big loss and I won’t worry too much about the $2 I spent on it . Can’t do much about the utilities but to move on and wait for the next sale; perhaps I’ll set up a Google alert or something. And the tape deck? Oh well, I’m sure parts are out there, and even if I spend $50 I’m still miles ahead since those units are selling for hundreds.

Nice setup. Any suggestions on parts suppliers? In addition to the thingy needed for the RT-707 I  need to get the Marantz 2240 volume knob replaced and an idler wheel for the Dual 1219, then my vintage setup will be fully operational again. I think the speakers, Tannoy Orbitus-1s, are still in working order...

No idea, I’d check eBay. Luckily   I was able to get my 707 working flawlessly with just a cleaning .
